I love a good self-help book. I find they give me fresh ideas on life; new ways at looking at things. People can tell you the same thing in a variety of ways, but I still find seeing it in writing in front of me works best. So here are the best 5 books I have found so far which have helped me. I would love to know if you have read any of these, or if you can recommend any new ones to me in the comments below too.
No.5 – F*ck it Therapy
I originally bought this book for someone else, but found myself at a loose end one night so began reading it and was hooked almost instantly! The simplistic language used really spoke to me. The very basic idea of just saying “F*ck it” to life is also a challenging one. A skill which I am still trying to utilise more often, I will not lie.
But it’s not just about saying those words; the author explains how to confront your demons (past and present) and tell them where to go. The exercises suggested are really easy to implement and some I still use to this day since reading it.
I would recommend this book to anyone who likes more down to earth language rather than being told to meditate on something (not that I am against meditation myself as you will see)
No.4 – The Miracle Morning
This book I stumbled across when looking at new diary inserts and was looking at the Level 10 Life idea. This idea came from this book so I decided to read the book to get a better understanding of the concept. And I have to say I was pleasantly surprised by the inspirational content in this book.
The author has a fantastic way of engaging with the reader and really challenging you to look at your life and start flipping all thoughts into something a lot more positive. I absolutely love his outlook on his and still listen to various pod casts of his for further inspiration.
I will not lie, as of yet I have not been able to fully implement the miracle morning into my daily routine. But I have managed to get a majority of the areas in and continue to improve on this with each day. For me it felt like too much to change all at once so am taking baby steps and this is working for me. I am much more positive when thinking about life, and a lot more grateful of each and every day.
No.3 – Project Me for Busy Mothers
This book follows on from the previous, Miracle Morning book. The idea is similar with the Level 10 Life idea however the topics have been changed slightly to suit the lifestyle of a busy mother. This obviously narrows down the target audience, but do not let that put you off. I believe this book and model could be used by anyone regardless of sex if I’m honest.
The author provides you with ideas of how to improve each area of your life, and does not have to be read from cover to cover. I like this style of book as you can dip in and out of it as need be. I find I use this as more of a resource type book, reading the relevant chapters as I feel I need to. I have never read this book in its entirety at any one time, but rather read relevant chapters to enhance my current thought process or aspect of life I am trying to improve.
No.2 – The Courage to be Creative
This book was a very close second as I have found it almost just as inspirational as the first one! The author is very down to earth and gives a completely new way of observing life. I feel through this book I have been able to channel my own creativity and focus on the inspiration going through my brain.
I am journaling a lot more because of this book and putting my ideas in practice much more. In fact, it was due to this book that I even got my act together to get this blog live and running! All my doubts finally pushed to one side and my confidence continues to grow.
No.1 – How to heal your life
This book just had to be my top favourite of all books I have read so far. The way the book is written and the passion from the author oozes through each chapter. I found myself being challenged every time I picked it up to read and that was humbling. I felt my outlook on life actually change whilst reading this book and I found a new inner confidence that I never knew existed
I find it much easier to look in the mirror and like what I see now, as well as the confidence to tell myself life is good and believe it! All thanks to this book and the skills it has taught me
