Goal update – savings and no spends…

Back in January I wrote a post entitled “The 4 bank accounts for peace of money” and one of those was a savings account.

I opened a Plum account for my savings, which works through Facebook messenger. Now I know there are people out there who would be sceptical about using an account like this. Especially when you cant physically see your money going anywhere. But for me that was the beauty of it.

I have NEVER had savings before in my life. When I got money I would spend it. If something involved saving I would very rarely achieve the savings target, but rather find a cheaper alternative.

But when I returned to work at the end of last year I decided more so than ever I needed to start making the effort to save. I wanted to ensure I could manage financially should I be out of work etc. Probably the first grown up thing I have done in a long time! Lols!

However, in 5 months I have a three figure savings balance and I’ve done it without even noticing! Plum analyses my bank account and takes money based on what I can afford so I genuinely do not notice when the money leaves my account!

Out of all the savings accounts Ibhave ever had and tried to use, this is most definitely the easiest and I would highly recommend Plum or any other smart savings account for those of you, who like me struggle with the concept of saving!

But what about your No spend goal?

So yes, when I admitted I was addicted to stickers I set myself a goal of not buying any for 2 months. It was such a huge goal, but one that I felt I had to prove to myself was doable.

Now, about a month in and I have found that not only have I not bought any stickers. I also haven’t then been spending that money elsewhere! So when I have treated myself this month it has been really special, thought out and worth while.

So overall?

I have found my entire attitude towards money changing. And all for the better. I am weighing up the ‘needs’ and ‘wants’ in a much clearer method. And can decide if something is worth buying or not pretty much instantly. I can also save for something now which as I have previously stated would have been impossible in the past
