5 ways to stay motivated

As a now very busy, full-time working mum with a blog, writing a booking and beginning to establish myself as a life coach, keeping my motivation high can be tough! I’m sure there are many people out there who can relate; feeling like theres not enough hours in the day, or that you have to sacrifice one thing to make room for another.

I want to share with you 5 ways I have been able to keep myself motivated on a daily basis. I can remain focused without sacrificing anything! And have found a way to make time for everything.

1. Begin each day with meditation

You have heard me say this time and time again, but it is just so true! There are loads of different resources out there to aid in your meditation so find what works for you. I shake mine up regularly, doing anything between 5-45 minutes dependant on my mood.

I don’t even get out of bed to do it! I pick up my phone, plug my headphones in and relax. That way getting out of bed doesn’t feel like such a task as I’ve already achieved something that day.

2. Take 10 minutes to plan your day

Before anyone gets up I take my diary out and glance at everything going on that week. I then look at any to do lists or take stock of any thoughts coming to mind of things that need doing.

I allow myself 3 tasks for the day. These then get noted down in my diary so I have something to focus on and a tick box to make me accountable.

3. Stop for lunch and refresh

Making time for myself throughout the day has always been tough. So now I make a much more conscious effort to stop for lunch. I’m not talking an hour long proper meal, sometimes just a 10 minute breathing space to eat a sandwich is all I need.

But what I try to do is eat my lunch mindfully. I want to think about the food in front of me. Take in every mouthful and enjoy the experience. Remind myself of tastes and textures.

This practise really helps me shut off from the hustle and bustle of work and gives me time to just relax.

4. Reduce clutter and waste as best you can

Research has shown that a messy/cluttered desk increases stress levels and causes the person to act in a chaotic way. To keep motivated you need some form of organisation. So take time to keep your work space clear. Only have out what you are working on at any given time.

With all the various projects I have on the go, I am constantly switching from one screen to another so organisation is key!

We also want to keep our stress levels down as when these peek our ability to remain motivated begins to plummet.

5. Think of tasks that can be grouped together

So this may sound like asking you to multitask, however a known fact about multitasking is it is almost always done badly.

During my nurse training I learnt that the reason why women can multitask better than men is because when they learn a new skill they store it on one side of the brain, then place a copy on the other. Men on the other hand just put skills on one side and never make a copy.

Whilst the copies may have their place what I have discovered over the years is as a woman, when I multitask I am never giving each activity it’s full potential. Therefore what I now try and do is group activities so that I can achieve full potential with all of them. For example, my “me time” in the evenings whilst having a bath is always when I am most productive with my writing. Therefore I will write my blog posts here on my phone. In fact, I’m doing it right now! Lol!

I hope these tips help you stay motivated throughout your day 😘
